The Eagle Eye 2024: Vol 3 No 1 | Sprinting is Back at Antrim

Alumni & Friends:

After a 51 year hiatus, sprinting has returned big time to Antrim, now known as The Eagles Nest. Damor Miller mined gold in the Blue Riband event, the Class 1 Boys 100m at Champs 2024, earlier today. Miller completed the race in 10.31, a PB and school record. Earlier he ran a then new XLCR record of 10.39 to win his semifinal. Teammate Lennon Green who ran a sparkling semi, coming from behind to capture an automatic qualifying spot in a new PB of 10.44, was 5th in the final.

This is the first time XLCR has had 2 athletes in the final of this event since 1960, when the school won Boys Champs. Adding to the historic day was Malike Nugent's 2nd place finish in the Class 2 equivalent. The last time the Boys from Antrim had a top 3 finish in this event was 1958, when Noel Mitchell also took 2nd. Mitchell went on to win in Class 1 two years consecutively.

Malike

Malike - closing Fast It was not all about sprinting for the Eagles today, as the Boys demonstrated that they are indeed a track and field team, with Keniel Daniels placing 5th in the Class 3 Boys 1500 and Michael Graham leaping 6.75m for 4th in the Class 2 Boys Long Jump. These results earned the Eagles 29 points which put them in third on the team placing table after Day 2. The best since the advent of the Super Champs.

Najhada is winning her 2nd gold at Champs, after capturing the Class 2 Discus Title two years  ago. Continuing to the tradition of the Lady Eagles excelling in throws, Katie Gordon placed 4th in the Girls Shot Put CLASS 2
